Join us for our BIANM Annual Conference on Saturday, October 22 from 8am to 1pm at UNM-HSC Domenici West (1001 Stanford NE, 87131, next to the Medical Libary and Family Practice Buildings). The conference theme is Surviving to Thriving and includes CDC’s recent opinion that brain injury is a chronic medical condition that requires treatment over the life span. We hope to offer something for different groups so there are 3 tracks to consider: persons living with brain injury, care-givers, and professionals. We are excited to have Ms. Garcia share her story of recovery, Ken Collins present on anger management, Dr. Jessica Richardson present on self-care tips for care-givers, Dr. Clark present on diagnosis and treatment in the primary care setting, Dr. Durham and Ms. S. Danziger, CCC-SLP present on treatment options for persons living with brain injury after they’ve been diagnosed, and Dr. Davin Quinn moderate the discussion on treatment after diagnosis.
The professional track will provide professionals information on how to screen, diagnoses and follow persons living with brain injury in the primary care setting and the treatment options available for the primary care professional to consider in making referrals for care and improving outcome.
There will be two panel discussions one on tips for healthy living for persons living with brain injury and one on tips to navigate the system and get what you need for care-givers of persons living with brain injury. We are concerned about the stress on care-givers and hope to offer some support and tips on how to thrive. Persons living with brain injury have expressed interest in gaining insight into how to manage anger and live a healthy life so we hope to provide some helpful information on those concerns.
We will wrap up the conference with Questions, Answers and Recommendations for Future needs session. A continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 during registration.
Registration is free but a donation of $40 is suggested (and much appreciated). Parking is free if you park in the correct spaces (more information on this will be provided at registration). Seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis so please RSVP ASAP to Delfy Roach, executive director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 888 292-7415. It is always good to see you all and make new friends at the conference.
